A noble-born landowner, a monk and a piece of land on which to build the first monastery in the Farra d’Isonzo area. So begins the ancient legend that leads to the name of Borgo Conventi, founded in 1975 with the aim of producing refined, elegant wines.
In this area, wine-growing has very deep roots. Indeed, for centuries the entire Villanova di Farra area was a fiefdom of the counts Strassoldo Villanova, and it was one of them – Count Rizzardo – who donated a plot of land to the Dominican friars in the mid 17th-century, so that the first of several monasteries could be built. Hence the name Borgo Conventi.
Recent history starts in 1975 with the founding of Borgo Conventi by Gianni Vescovo, and his promise to produce fine and elegant wines.
The pledge was reaffirmed in 2019 when the estate was bought by the Moretti Polegato family, who placed even greater emphasis on care of the vineyards.
The tour includes a visit to the cellar, the barrel room and a guided tasting of 3 typical wines of the area.
